About Kiel…

Kiel Scates, M.Ed., BCBA® grew up in Kennesaw, Georgia and has spent most her adult life in the metro Atlanta area. When the pandemic hit in 2020, Kiel and her husband, Ryan, and their sons, Andy (6) and Charlie (2) made the jump to St. Simons Island.

Kiel works for the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts (APBA) as the Marketing & Member Experience Coordinator when she is not consulting.

Kiel received her bachelor's (‘10) and master's (‘12) degrees in special education from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) Kiel began her career in the classroom as a special education teacher. After moving away from Athens and back to the Atlanta area, Kiel began pursuing her BCBA® credential while working as a behavior therapist. She earned her BACB® credential in July 2015. As an ABA practitioner, she has worked with a variety of clients ages 2 years to adulthood in homes, schools, clinics, residential, and community settings.

While working as a Clinical Supervisor, Kiel honed in on her love of school consulting and partnered with schools throughout the metro Atlanta area providing inservice teacher trainings, workshops, and ongoing consultation for a variety of classrooms and students in special education settings and general education settings.

Kiel has also served on the Georgia Association of Behavior Analysis (GABA) board for the past 5 years in a variety of roles, including the 2022 President. She was proud to be an active member of the licensure committee since 2018. The committee and GABA board saw the proposed state license of Behavior Analysts get signed into a bill in May 2022.

She is enthusiastic about building connections within the community, being a support to school personnel, and being a cheerleader for families and clients. Partnering with teachers and cheering them on is what Kiel is most passionate about!

When she’s not in a classroom or working on APBA events and member experiences , you can find her spending time with her family and learning to be on Island Time.
